ARTISTS PRESENT

This group show features three talented painters documenting the rapidly disappearing Florida landscape: renowned realists Kent Sullivan and Keith Martin Johns and impressionist Hope Reis.

The work of the two realists are stunning interpretations of Florida landscapes from sunrise to sunset; several are oversize canvases appropriate for larger homes. The wonderfully soft impressionist landscapes of Hope Reis evoke the mood and spirit of our ancient Everglades.

MAJOR EXHIBITION OF INTERNATIONAL REALISM TO BE HELD IN FLORIDA FOR FIRST TIME

Naples, October 15 ...The Weatherburn Gallery will host the Fourth Annual Juried Exhibition of the International Guild of Realism (IGOR) in February 2009. This prestigious show will be the largest of its kind to be held in the US during 2009.

"The exhibition attracts some of the finest realist artists from around the globe," says Larry Charles an IGOR Charter Member and coordinator of the event. "For many of those from overseas this is the first exposure of their work in the United States and an important step in their careers. To be accepted for this show in the face of intense international competition is a major accomplishment."

Organizers received more than 200 entries from 14 countries. These included Belarus, China, Finland, Iceland, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Rumania, Russia and Thailand in addition to the US, Canada and Mexico. "The quality of the work in these exhibitions is always exceptional," added Charles, "which is in keeping with our mission to showcase the finest quality of realism being created today." The exhibition will feature classical and contemporary realism styles spanning trompe l'oeil, photorealism, surrealism and hyper-realism created in a range of media including charcoal, pencil, watercolor, acrylic and egg tempera as well as oils.

The entries were evaluated by a panel of professionals and reduced to a short list of 45 finalists. These works form the body of the exhibition. Shortly before the show's opening, judges will select award winners in ten categories that will be announced during the opening evening on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. All the works will then be available for purchase and will remain on display until March 2, 2009.

Gallery owner Roger Weatherburn, recently elected President of the newly formed Naples Fine Art Dealers Association said "We're delighted to be hosting this exhibition for a number of reasons: IGOR is a very professional organization, the work of many of their members is truly exceptional and part of NFADA's mission is to bring major events of this caliber to Naples." The January 2008 exhibition was hosted by the Scottsdale Fine Art Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona.

tiny art

Opening Reception:
6:00-8:00pm, Saturday, November 29.

Location:
The Weatherburn Gallery - Naples, FL

Works by: More than 30 award-winning artists from the US, Canada and overseas

This show will feature some of the most superb miniature art being created today.

The Miniature Art Society of Florida's 33rd Annual Show was held at Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo, Florida this past January. It attracted hundreds of entries submitted from 34 US states and eleven other countries. Competition was intense. On display were dozens of rows of tiny works of art that sparkled like exquisite gems, each a delicate, finely crafted treasure, each no bigger than the palm of a hand.

Sometimes using magnifying glasses to examine minute brush strokes, the judges singled out about 60 of the most extraordinary works deserving of special merit and awards. Our show will feature the latest work of those award winners. Don't miss it!
